Here in Canada our Department of Transportation (Transport Canada) requires that these new devices have an automatic emergency function. You can use the Spider track system or SPOT but you still have to have a 406 Mhz transponder installed because it has a G-switch.
How hard would it be for someone like Spidertracks, to produce a unit with a G-switch, that would automatically send an emergency signal without operator input?
As a pilot on a limited budget I will be buying a 406 ELT because I have to. I can’t afford two systems. If someone were to come up with a legal alternative that was cost-effective I would be most interested.
