Dynon Avionics and PocketFMS announce the availability of new worldwide AeroData for Dynon SkyView EFISes. This includes all airspace, airports, runways, frequencies, obstacles and waypoints. Coverage encompasses Europe, North America (including Canada), Australia and New Zealand.

Garmin Offers GTN 750 Trainer App for iPad

Garmin has introduced a new trainer app for the iPad2. This app, downloadable from the iTunes store, simulates the behavior of the GTN 750 GPS/nav/com system interface and provides pilots with a safe way to learn the basic operation of the system on the ground.

Sonex Aircraft to Hold 50th Workshop

Workshop participants will be able to attend a banquet at the EAA AirVenture Museum's Eagle Hangar.

Sonex Aircraft LLC has announced that it will be holding its 50th Sonex Builder Workshop on the weekend of January 28-29, 2012. The Sonex workshop, held at the company’s factory in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, gives current and prospective builders an opportunity to meet the Sonex staff and learn about the design and construction of the Sonex. Builders will construct a sample piece of the Sonex wing to take home, along with the increased confidence in their abilities.

Winter 2012 workshop participants will also have an opportunity to attend the EAA Chapter 252 annual banquet, held in the EAA AirVenture Museum Eagle Hangar. This year’s guest speaker will be John Monnett, Sonex Aircraft LLC founder and president.

The workshop fee is $200, which can be put toward any plans or kit purchase. EAA Chapter 252 banquet tickets are $30 per person; $25 per person for Chapter 252 members.

Junior Takes Wing

Have to share the news. The RV-3 that KITPLANES contributor Paul Dye and his wife, Louise Hose, built has flown. According to Dye, the first flight was textbook. The second ended in an off-airport landing with no damage. They flew it out and have continued testing; a mere burp, nothing horrible. Dye says he could probably write a book (or at least a chapter) on how to prepare for a first flight, and how that preparation pays off, as it did on this first flight December 10. WhirlWind Announces Composite Rotax Propeller

WhirlWind Propellers has introduced a new composite ground adjustable propeller for the LSA Rotax 912/914 engine. According to the company, the blades feature a highly swept profile and thin airfoils, which result in a quiet and efficient performance. The three-blade propeller is ground-adjustable, and features carbon-composite blade construction, nickel leading edges and a CNC-machined aluminum hub. It weighs in at 7.7 pounds, and is available in 68- and 70-inch diameters. Retail price is $1525.

Dynon to Offer Hands-on Training at Sebring

Dynon Avionics will be offering free (for some) courses in the operation of its SkyView system at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, January 19 to 22. The classes will last 3.5 hours and will be held in the mornings and afternoons on Thursday through Saturday and in the morning only on Sunday the 22nd. During the seminars, current and prospective owners of SkyView systems will be working with real SkyView units, configuring them for various ground and flight operations.
