Aircraft Spruce & Specialty and Hartzell Engine Technologies have teamed up to support Kyle and Amanda Franklin. The Franklins are a husband and wife aerobatics team who were hospitalized after they were forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure during Air Fiesta 2011. Beginning April 1 and continuing through June 30, a donation of $1 will be made to the Kyle and Amanda Fund for every Hartzell Engine Technologies oil filter that is purchased through Aircraft Spruce.

Aircraft Spruce Debuts New Pilot Catalog

Aircraft Spruce & Specialty took Sun n Fun as an opportunity to debut its new PilotShop.com catalog of products. “The products are a little different from the nuts and bolts items that we stock through our big book,” said Desiree Czaplinski, marketing representative for the company. “We created PilotShop.com to make it easier for pilots to find those essentials, from flight cases to sunglasses, pilot watches to custom mugs; even personal emergency locator beacons are now in the PilotShop.com catalog,” she said.

If your aim is simply aesthetics, the Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Bombshell Covergirls from the company’s famous calendar are on site at Sun ‘n Fun, where you can get 24 months’ worth of curvaceous women depicted on the calendars for just $30. They will even sign the calendars if you visit Booth B 1-9 at the show.

On a more serious note, Czaplinski was quick to remind this writer that the company also has a special campaign in force to raise money for the Kyle & Amanda Franklin fund. (These two airshow performers were recently burned in an accident.) Kelley Aerospace/Hartzell and Aircraft Spruce will donate a combined $1 for every Kelley Aerospace oil filter sold by Spruce through June 30th.

New Oil Thermostat for Rotax 912 Engines

ThermoStasis has introduced an oil thermostat designed to regulate the oil temperature of Rotax 912 series engines installed in Experimental aircraft. CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, the unit incorporates a calibrated thermal motor, an O-ring compression seal, aircraft quality components and fasteners, and is available with 190°F or 205°F operating temperatures.

Installing an oil thermostat provides a number of benefits including fuel cost savings from reduced warmup times and engine operation at higher oil temperatures, which may extend engine life by boiling off engine oil contaminants. An oil thermostat also offers a shorter, less restrictive flow path for cold engine oil when it’s most needed during cold starts, the company says.

The unit weighs 6.2 ounces and measures 2.1×1.5×2.4 inches. It can be secured to a bracket or Adel clamps by AN3 bolts using the two 3/16 inch diameter mounting holes. It has 3/8 inch NPT ports and is designed to be used with AN840 and AN844 aircraft fittings.

The unit can be purchased from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, from ConAir Sports Ltd. in the U.K. or from X-Air Australia in Australia and New Zealand. MSRP is $129.
