The classes will last 3.5 hours and will be held in the mornings and afternoons Thursday through Sunday. During the seminars, current and prospective owners of SkyView systems will be working with real units, configuring them for various ground and flight operations.

Kirk Kleinholz, CFII and SkyView expert, will provide instruction, and classes will be held in the Hilton Garden Inn hotel adjacent to the airport. The hotel conference room is air-conditioned with comfortable seating and a classroom-like environment, and the session will include a full audio/visual presentation. Classes are structured with limited seating to assure no more than two students at each SkyView display.

To cover the cost of conference room space, the cost is $30 per person. Advance ticket purchase is required through Brown Bag Tickets, an online ticketing service that can also be accessed on the Dynon web site.

For those pilots planning to switch from analog to digital/electronic instrumentation there will be opportunities to explore the benefits and compromises of glass panel systems, cockpit resource management and procedures for safe transition. Robert Hamilton, Director of Marketing, said, “Pilots should be proficient with their avionics during flight, and customers are telling us that the hands-on training is a good, fast way to get up the learning curve.”

The classes will last 3.5 hours and will be held in the mornings and afternoons on Thursday through Saturday and in the morning only on Sunday the 22nd. During the seminars, current and prospective owners of SkyView systems will be working with real SkyView units, configuring them for various ground and flight operations.Class size will be restricted to the first 15 people who sign up on the Dynon web site: www.DynonAvionics.com/Training. The training classes will be held at the Chateau Elan Hotel and Conference Center adjacent to the Sebring Airport. Instruction will be provided by Kirk Kleinholz, CFII and SkyView expert. This first set of classes will be free, while future ones will have a fee.

Pilots will be guided through navigation exercises using the integrated VFR GPS moving map and flight planner. They will also configure as well as operate the autopilot for both VFR and IFR missions and locate and interpret the various types of data presented on the SkyView (winds aloft, TAS, density altitude, fuel computer, etc.).

For those pilots planning to switch from analog to digital/electronic instrumentation there will be opportunities to explore the benefits and compromises of glass panel systems, cockpit resource management and procedures for safe transition. “Dynon realizes that transitioning to glass panel technology is not difficult, but requires focus,” said Robert Hamilton, director of marketing. “Pilots should be proficient with their avionics during flight, and hands-on training is a good way to achieve that.”

MGL Avionics has announced availability of its new XTreme EMS engine monitoring system. The XTreme EMS is based on a 4.3-inch sunlight readable, wide viewing angle, high-resolution LCD display. It integrates an SD card reader (for software updates and for engine data recorder), five function buttons and a rotary control. It can be connected to standard MGL Avionics RDAC (engine monitor) boxes, which are required.

The XTreme EMS is designed to fit a standard 3.125-inch round instrument hole. The body is located off-center, allowing the unit to replace instruments on the right side of a standard six-pack configuration or any other location that currently occupies two instruments.

Due to the light weight and low mounting depth no complicated mounting brackets or trays are needed, MGL says. Power use is low, and operation from much less than 12 volts to about 28 volts is fully supported.

The XTreme EMS is an engine-only version of the existing XTreme EFIS that includes primary flight (pitot/static), AHRS and GPS instrumentation.

An example of a basic package for a four-cylinder engine would be: XTreme EMS, $850;
RDAC XB, $220; engine senders, $425 for a total of $1495.

More information about the XTreme EMS can be found here.

Dynon Avionics has introduced Version 3.1 firmware for the SkyView Integrated Glass Panel system. This update adds a flight planning menu along with controls so that pilots can now create, then fly multileg flight plans which can include autopilot input commands.

Version 3.1 enables pilots to enter flight plans with multiple waypoints right on their SkyView display. It can also use computer-based flight planners that support the .GPX file format to create flight plans at home. In addition, SkyView flight plans can now be set up to provide turn anticipation between flight-plan legs. When so configured, SkyView starts its turn guidance in advance of a waypoint to fly a transition that will not overshoot the next leg, the company says.

Another new 3.1 feature is the ability to output complete, real-time RS-232 data from the engine sensors and other inputs that are connected to the SkyView SV-EMS-220 module.

Customers can download SkyView Version 3.1 free from the Dynon web site.

For more information, call 425/402-0433 or visit www.DynonAvionics.com.

The system is a remote-mount box with a battery and sophisticated charging and power-switching circuitry, allowing for automatic backup of flight-critical electrical items.

Now with the AC Plug-In Charger, TCW makes it possible to keep the IBBS battery recharged without tapping current from the airplane’s main battery. (In the normal IBBS installation, a wire is connected to an “always hot” terminal to trickle-charge the battery, but this can over time deplete the main ship’s battery.) Offered at $105, the PIC connects via the supplied circular connector feeding the IBBS, plugs into an AC outlet, and maintains the IBBS’s charge state without impact on the aircraft battery.

Currently, the SkyView systems support TIS input from either of Dynon’s remote-mounted (and EFIS-controlled) transponders or the Garmin GTX 330. SkyView is also capable of interpreting and displaying data from a Zaon XRX passive TCAS receiver, a Navworx ADS-B receiver, or a Trig ADS-B module—essentially from any system that outputs data in the industry-standard form.

According to the company, “Traffic will show up on SkyView’s moving map and synthetic vision displays using standard TCAS I symbols. SkyView will identify the location, severity of threat, distance, vertical separation and heading of any aircraft within the traffic system range.”

The SkyView system starts at $3900 with a 7-inch screen and a single ADAHRS (air-data and heading reference system) module. The system can support multiple screens and ADAHRS modules, engine monitoring, and will drive Dynon’s proprietary autopilot servos. According to Dynon, there are nearly 1000 SkyView systems currently flying.

Included are new user-adjustable parameters to optimize autopilot performance for individual aircraft. “The autopilot now flies just as an experienced pilot would, with crisp, appropriate inputs that really seem to understand the airplane,” said Ian Jordan, chief systems engineer.

These EFIS products have been in service for over seven years and continue to be upgraded by the company, including the free autopilot upgrade two years ago. “It’s all part of our commitment to support our customers,” said Robert Hamilton, marketing director.
